EVCC Fire Science AAS-T

Career and Employment Options

Firefighters protect the public by responding to fires and other emergencies. They are frequently the first emergency personnel on the scene of an accident.

Firefighters typically enter the occupation with a postsecondary non-degree award in fire science or a related discipline. Employment of firefighters is expected to grow by 9 percent and the career is listed as a Bright Outlook career by the American Jobs Center Network O*Net. Physically fit applicants with high test scores and some postsecondary firefighter education and paramedic training generally have the best prospects.  EvCC strongly suggests that students speak to their Advisor about the many career options available.
